Dashicons pilot – what you’re seeing On gov-issued laptops / secured network, Dashicons display correctly (future-state option: no image uploads, fewer broken-icon issues). On some smartphones / external networks, Dashicons may not display. This appears to be a theme or front-end loading difference, not a problem with the table HTML itself. Today’s universal fallback Uploading icons to WordPress (Media Library) and referencing them locally works across devices. Decision point If we want maximum compatibility immediately, use locally hosted icons. If we want lowest maintenance long-term, use Dashicons once the theme loads them universally (desktop + mobile).

Demo note: We were lucky as the Dashicons were already loaded on the WordPress public site. We also may enable the conventional green (#1d6f42) for excel icons and red (#c62828) for the PDF icons by adding CSS code.
