B. Labor Force and Jobs
This section provides statistics on Hawaii’s civilian labor force, including counts for the employed and unemployed, the unemployed rates, and wage and salary jobs categorized by industry.
The primary sources for these statistics are the annual tabulations from the Hawaii State Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism (DBEDT). Agricultural employment data are sourced from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) and its Hawaii Field Office.
Estimation of agriculture jobs and total jobs (as the sum of non-agriculture and agriculture jobs) was discontinued by the Hawaii Department of Labor & Industrial Relations (DLIR) after 2011 when the Hawaii Department of Agriculture (DoA) discontinued its field survey. Since then, only state estimates are available from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA), National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS)’s Quick Stats online database.
