A. Population and Housing
This section presents statistics regarding Hawaii’s resident and de facto populations, vital statistics (births and deaths), and housing inventory for the state of Hawaii and its four counties.
Population data are primarily sourced from the U.S. Census Bureau’s annual estimates, with additional figures on visitors present and residents absent provided by the Hawaii State Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism (DBEDT). Vital statistics are provided by the Hawaii State Department of Health (DOH), while housing unit data are sourced from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Population and Housing Unit Estimates program.
