This section also presents statistics relating to registration of motor vehicles. The data sources are the Hawaii State Department of Transportation’s Highways Division and the Hawaii Automobile Dealers Association. Data for the entire period of record through 1976 appear in Historical Statistics of Hawaii, Section 17.

This section also presents data on index offenses (known to the police) which include murder, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft, excluding negligent manslaughter and arson from 1993 to 2012. The Hawaii State Department of the Attorney General issues crime summary reports, based on reports submitted by the counties’ police departments.
