As we begin 2026 and embark on the legislative session, DBEDT’s work continues to focus on building a strong, balanced economy that creates opportunity across Hawaii. This month’s newsletter highlights how that work shows up across industries, communities and careers. We are also sharing new tools and resources to support informed decision-making and public engagement.

According to preliminary statistics from DBEDT, total spending by visitors in December 2025 was $2.12 billion (measured in nominal dollars), a 3.7 percent increase compared to December 2024.

DBEDT today announced that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for December was 2.2 percent, the same as in November.
