Kolowalu Dog Park
The Kolowalu Small Dog Park is closed for maintenance and lawn treatment until December 1, 2025.
The small dog park was closed for maintenance and lawn treatment due to unauthorized dumping of mulch.
While the large dog park remains open, owners of small dogs are advised to keep them on leash, as small dogs may slip through the aluminum fencing. Owners who choose to unleash their small dogs do so at their own risk.
The non-pet friendly mulch was safely removed, and HCDA’s new landscaper installed landscape barriers to contain the existing mulch in its designated area. Additional dog-safe mulch will be installed in both the large and small dog parks to cover bare areas.
During the small dog park closure, new sod was installed to rehab the overall lawn condition. Pavers were installed in high foot traffic areas at the small dog park entrance and near the benches to prevent muddy conditions. HCDA will keep the small dog park closed to allow the sod to strengthen and grass to grow between the pavers.
After several incidents of vandalism to the irrigation system that affected both the large and small dog sections of the park, the Hawai‘i Community Development Authority (HCDA) closed the large dog park in May 2025. The large dog park has since reopened.
In the future, periodic closures of both park sections are expected for maintenance and repairs.
Mahalo for your patience and understanding.
