Uniform Information Practices Act (UIPA)

The Uniform Information Practices Act (Modified), chapter 92F, Hawaii Revised Statutes (“UIPA”), is Hawaiʻi’s public records law. The Office of Information Practices (“OIP”) was created by the Legislature in 1988 to administer the UIPA.

Request Requirements

For a request to be processed, it must:

  1. Be submitted in writing.
  2. Include sufficient contact information for our team to correspond with you.
  3. Provide a reasonable description of the requested record(s).
  4. State your preferred method of delivery (e.g., pick up copy, mail, email, etc.).

We highly recommend that you use the State of Hawaiʻi OIP Request to access a government record form. Using this form ensures uniformity, helps both the Corporation and the Requester, and may expedite your request’s response time.
